- As far as I can remember...
We did an experiment with the former NASians/Seniors from Temasek Junior Colledge. We did an experiment to see which has sugar, Regular Coke or Coke Zero, and finding how much energy that we burn from eating a peanut, a small cereal flake, or a tidbit.
The first experiment was interesting, we used some of the coke together with some Benedict's Solution to test its sugar concentration. It seemed like the Coke Zero did not change colour (sugar-free) but the Regular Coke did (yep, lots of sugar) during the experiment.
The second one involves heating the item until it catches fire. That's right! We burned the peanut, the cereal flake and the tidbit, one by one. At the same time we measured the temperature to see how much energy it burns. I had the "burning sensation"
Before ending this post, I...
- ..have 3 thoughts:
- The food we eat seems appetizing and may not affect our health gradually but, from this experiment, I learnt that food cannot be judged by just its looks and thoughts. It needs to be proven how healthy it is.
- Food that tastes, feels, looks the same may seem the same but who knows? Different food of the same characteristics can have different amounts of sugars, fats etc.
- I think that the seniors our very good presenters. Despite the huge fuss the class made, they were still able to learn and experience.
- ...have 2 questions:
- Is there a better way to find out the properties of the food without the use of too much experimenting?
- How will people make food taste so nice without the use of sugar and unhealthy food properties
- ...have a useful applications
- I could use it for HE (Home Economics) to make a very healthy meal.
